YOUR OWN TAILORED ITINERARY

You’ll have a trip fully customised to you and your group’s needs and interests. You’ll have a set itinerary in advance as detailed as you wish but the freedom to change as far as possible your sailing adventure along the way. Your skipper, of course, will make the final call for your safety.

Below is an example of a multi-activity adventure sailing cruise, perfect if you like being active outdoors not just lying on deck sunbathing, but with plenty of time for that too.

NOTE

We’ve operated many sailing holidays around the Aeolian islands and designed several itineraries also thanks to our first-hand experiences over the years and we know that sometimes we have to make digressions and changes on the day’s itinerary which actually make each trip unique.

This is a sailing holiday, and as always it is very much dependent on the weather.

In addition typically all our Aeolian cruising are also fantastic multi-adventure holidays that includes hiking active volcanoes for istance. Again, very much subject to the whims of nature. That’s why they’re so special.

We were once on our way from Salina to Panarea for a cool aperitif and we came across a sea turtle floating and stuck in a plastic box with a hook in its mouth. We rescued it and took it right away to the rescue centre on Lipari. It was fantastic and nobody regretted missing the aperitif in Panarea.

DAY BY DAY SAMPLE ITINERARY OF A MULTI-ACTVITY ADVENTURE SAILING CRUISE

Embark on a sailing adventure packed with lots of activities on the islands and time to sunbathe and chilling on deck as well. You’ll hike on active volcanoes and go swimming and snorkeling in turquoise waters. You’ll kayak into grottos and thermal caves and soak in the local vibe at night. Go really local with us and get around the islands with the people who live there. Dine on the freshest food ever in small family-run restaurants and on unexpected private terraces.

Sat DAY 1 VULCANO – 15 nautical miles

Welcome on board! Your crew will meet you in the early afternoon and, after a trip briefing, sail out to the island of Vulcano. The ancients believed that this island was the chimney of the fire god Vulcan’s workshop and the moment you set foot on it, it becomes clear that this is indeed a setting fit for a god. Unspoilt nature, black sand, smoky fumaroles, therapeutic mud baths and hot springs.

Kick off your adventure with an easy guided hike to the Gran Cratere at sunset. A lunar landscape of smoking holes and yellow sulphur awaits you on top. And what a view! all the Aeolian Islands in a row rising out of the blue of the sea. Dine on board tonight and go for a walk along the marina where shops, restaurants and bars come alive in the evening.

Sun DAY 2 LIPARI – 6 nautical miles

Wake up to the sunshine and spend the day swimming, snorkeling and especially kayaking. You’ll paddle to grottos and thermal caves with turquoise water, pass the fumaroles (volcanic activity) bubbling in the water and natural pools.

Head to the Faraglioni for a swim, before making your way to the island of Lipari. Go ashore to taste the Malvasia watching the sunset on the terrace of a gorgeous winery. Dine at a restaurant and soak up the local vibe. Who doesn’t love the islands’ vibe in the summer evenings? Not dressed up, but relaxed and checking out the local bars.

Mon DAY 3 PANAREA – 9 nautical miles

Don’t miss a swim in the turquoise waters of the Cave di Pomice before heading off to Panarea, the party island. The smallest of the Aeolian Islands is packed with beauty, white-washed houses, glamour and wildness. Panarea is famed as the jet-set island but if you are after its more authentic soul just take one of thepaths that go out of the centre.

Tonight treat yourselves to a bit of partying with local cult restaurants, aperitifs, boat parties and summer nightlife.

Tue DAY 4 STROMBOLI – 12 nautical miles

We promised beauty and wildness and today you’ll go for some fantastic swimming. And if you are more into diving, well your time has come! Your diving instructor and award-winning underwater photographer will take you “where the land ends”. There are so many dive opportunities here including vertical walls, ship-wrecks, grottos and caves where sea turtles, moreys and lobsters are little disturbed by the presence of divers.

This is only the beginning of day 4. You’ll set sail to Stromboli and embark on the most exciting hike on this active volcano. We call it “Iddu” meaning “he” in Sicilian. Following your local expert guide, you’ll start climbing up at sundown to see the Sciara di Fuoco at night when it is dark and you can see the bright red of the lava against the darkness of the surroundings. You’ll hear the “voice” of the volcano and possibly, depending on the activity, the stones rolling down from the top straight into the deep blue sea.

The itinerary and the excursion depend heavily on the activity of the volcano. Another wonderful option is to watch from your boat the unique show of the lava flowing down the volcano and looking like firey waterfalls going into the dark sea.

Wed DAY 5 FILICUDI – 20 nautical miles to Salina + 10 to Filicudi

Soak up the sun and chill on the deck while sailing west to the remote island of Filicudi. You’ll be met at the quaint port of Pecorini by our wonderful local cicerone, a Sicilian lucky enough to call this Mediterranean paradise home.

Filicudi is an unspoilt rocky island, peppered with prickly pears and flowering capers growing out of every crag and where life has a rhythm of its own.

Take a scenic walk to the cape where people here meet for a frugal aperitif and watch the stunning sunset as the sun goes behind Alicudi. Bring a torch for your way back, Filicudi nights are lit up by the stars. Later on dine by the sea on the terrace of a local friend.

Thr DAY 6 SALINA – 13 nautical miles

Divers get ready for another terrific dive. To all the others who prefer to have their feet on the ground, go for a wonderful hike. Your guide knows every single trail, easy or more challenging, on this island and as you walk along the paths that climb up and connect scattered remote houses, you’ll stop and taste freshly picked capers, homemade preserves and pesto.

Lunch in a private home on freshly caught fish and set sail with the feeling that you want to come back and spend at least an entire month on this incredible island.

The next port of call will be Salina. Our Man in Salina, the one and only one you have to know on the island will be waiting for you at the dock. You will get around the island on your own scooter. Cross country areas and Malvasia vineyards, climb narrow streets with their whitewashed houses and taste the Malvasia “vera” as the perfect sun-downer.

Fri DAY 7 LIPARI-MILAZZO – 6 nautical miles to Lipari + 20 to Milazzo

Today breakfast is at Alfredo’s. Granita and brioche, the best in all the Aeolian Islands. People from the other islands and the expert sailors of these waters come to Salina just for the granita at Alfredo’s. We set sail to Lipari for our last swim stop and back to base.
